AILit’s own draft definition states this plainly: AI literacy provides a clear understanding of how AI technologies work and what their responsible use entails, so learners can make informed decisions, grounded in trusted information, ethics, and social good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why this is becoming a legal requirement, not just good pedagogy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

AI literacy has moved beyond curriculum recommendation in at least one major jurisdiction. Article 4 of the EU AI Act, applicable since February 2025, requires that anyone deploying an AI system ensures the people using it, including students and educators, have a sufficient level of AI literacy.
